The type of personal information we collect 

We currently collect and process the following information:

  • Email address
  • Inferred: Disability status (special category data), student status

This privacy notice is for signing up to the prize draw, not for your survey responses. A separate consent form is used for the survey.

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Your email address is provided to us directly by you for the following reason:

  • You wish to be contacted about our the prize draw

We also receive the following personal information indirectly:

  • Disability status. We do not request this information directly, but by providing your email address you are taken to be signalling your status as a disabled person.
  • Student status. We do not request this information directly, but by providing your email address you are taken to be a current or former student.

We use the email address that you have given us in order to send you information only if you win the prize draw.

We will not share your personal data with anyone outside of this organisation. 

At any point you can ask us to remove you from the draw by reaching out to contact@disabledstudents.co.uk

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful basis we rely on for processing this information under Articles 6 and 9 is:

(a) Explicit consent

These articles and lawful bases apply due to our processing of ‘special category data’. The special category data that is relevant in this case is the inference of contributors’ disability status. Although we do not seek this data directly, we invite contributions from those who are disabled, so this special category data is inferred from the act of you providing your email address.

How we store your personal information 

Your information is securely stored within a DSUK Google drive folder. DSUK team members who have access to the folder have appropriate security measures in place. 

We keep your email address for a month after the survey closes, so that we have time to contact the winner. We then delete your data. You can contact us at any point and ask us be removed from the draw and we will delete your data.

Your data protection rights

Under data protection law, you have rights including:

Your right of access – You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information. 

Your right to rectification – You have the right to ask us to rectify personal information you think is inaccurate. You also have the right to ask us to complete information you think is incomplete. 

Your right to erasure – You have the right to ask us to erase your personal information in certain circumstances. 

Your right to restriction of processing – You have the right to ask us to restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances. 

Your right to object to processing – You have the the right to object to the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.

Your right to data portability – You have the right to ask that we transfer the personal information you gave us to another organisation, or to you, in certain circumstances.

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
